The English batsmen aren’t having the brightest summer in the ongoing series against India. The entire batting lineup, especially the top order has been relentlessly troubled by the Indian pacers. The trio of Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma and comeback man Jasprit Bumrah have constantly made life difficult for them in English conditions. While the home team is worried about Alastair Cook‘s form, his partner Keaton Jennings has failed to make it count.

So far in the series, Jennings has scored just 94 runs at a clumsy average of 15.67. Moreover, the 26-year-old has failed to cross the 50 run mark in his last 15 innings. There are serious questions being imposed on his constant backing by the team management. Former England skipper Michael Vaughan joined the bandwagon as he criticized Jennings for his shortcomings in the series so far.

You have to fear for his career

Mincing no words, Vaughan stated that his Test spot is in danger. Speaking about his dismissal against Bumrah, the former England captain remarked that Jennings came in to bat with a predetermined mindset which cost him his wicket. The delivery just curved in to him as the opener was left without any clue.

“You have to fear for Keaton Jennings’ career. When you see a dismissal like we saw this morning, he clearly went out there with a pre-determined mind to leave the ball. That tells me that his mind isn’t on watching the ball and reacting to the ball that’s delivered. His mind is, ‘right I’m going to leave it’.” Vaughan was quoted as saying by BBC.

It was as bad a dismissal as you can see in Test cricket

It was the fourth instance in his international career where Keaton registered a duck. The left-handed batsman has been under tremendous pressure for a while now. Michael Vaughan is of the opinion that it would take a while for the opener to get rid of his current technique. He described it as one of the worst dismissals ever in Test cricket.

“Once you get into that position as a batsman, it’s very hard to get out of that mindset. He’ll be certainly looking over his shoulder, as he should be with the way that he’s played. That was a full-ish ball on leg stump and it was as bad a dismissal as you can see in Test match cricket,” he concluded.
