If ever there is a book written on the history of Indian cricket, Yuvraj Singh will sure have several pages etched for him. One of the greatest servants of the nation, the all-rounder made his international debut in 2000. It wouldn’t be an understatement to say that the 2011 World Cup triumph wouldn’t have been possible without him. He had a crucial role to play in T20 World Cup 2007 win as well and is the only player to have hit six sixes in an over in T20I cricket.

However, Yuvi is likely to bring curtains on his illustrious international career on Monday. He called for a media interaction in an opulent South Mumbai hotel. The 37-year-old is likely to call it a day in this interaction. Things haven’t really panned out the way he’d have liked ever since he recovered from cancer. The Southpaw last played an international game for India in 2017.

He almost went unsold in the IPL auction as well before the Mumbai Indians grabbed him at his base price at the last moment. While he was expected to make a strong come back through the IPL, he only featured in four games and didn’t have the best of outings which saw him warm the bench for the remainder of the season. A senior BCCI official also revealed recently that Yuvraj Singh is thinking of calling it quits from international as well as first-class cricket.

What’s next for Yuvraj Singh?

For a long time now, Yuvraj Singh has been giving it a serious thought about pursuing a freelance career in foreign T20 leagues which are approved by the ICC. The all-rounder could possibly go ahead with this plan of his and thus prolong his career for a few more years.  He has apparently got a few offers at his disposal and is contemplating a possible stint in some of these T20 leagues.

“He would like to speak to the BCCI and get more clarity on plying his trade in tournaments like GT20 (Canada), Euro T20 Slam in Ireland and Holland as he has offers,” a BCCI source privy to the development had said as per the reports in The Times of India.
