Team India rode on Umesh Yadav’s sensational six-wicket haul in the ongoing second Test against Windies in Hyderabad and skittled them for 311 runs. After Shardul Thakur got injured only 10 balls into his Test debut, the pace bowler led the bowling attack wonderfully and brought his reverse swinging skills to the fore. He registered his best figures in the whites which read 6/88.
After winning the toss, the visitors started well with the bat unlike Rajkot and they were also lucky to get an opportunity on a batting beauty in Hyderabad. Despite losing a couple of wickets in the first session, the score was looking good but it was Umesh’s body blow which helped the hosts win it. He pinned Shai Hope in front of the stumps at the stroke of lunch.
Umesh single-handedly kept India in the game
At 113/5, it felt like Windies have blown away a good chance of posting a big total on the board. But Roston Chase and Jason Holder had different ideas who forged a 100+ partnership before Shane Dowrich showed an impeccable resistance. There was no help for the spinners whatsoever and visibly the Indian trio struggled to provide consistent breakthroughs.
But India’s only pacer in the match saved the day for them. He scalped the dogged Dowrich and then went on to send back Holder at the fag end of the day when things looked dull for Team India. He didn’t take much time on the second morning to get into his groove and picked all the remaining three wickets of the opposition.
In the process, Umesh Yadav also registered his second five-wicket haul after picking his first at Perth way back in 2012.
The fraternity was all praise for the fast bowler and even Yuvraj Singh wasn’t behind either. He lauded his efforts and congratulated Umesh for a fantastic spell.
Here’s his tweet:
The beast is back with a bang ! Hard work never goes in vain. Great spell @y_umesh 👍 #INDvsWI
