Indian reality TV show Big Boss has once again created a controversy. A contestant from the show Akansha Sharma who is the ex-wife of Zoravar Singh, cousin brother of Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh has accused the all-rounder of indulging in drugs.

Akansha right at the time she made her entry on the show brought up the topic of her failed marriage which didn’t go down well with Yuvraj’s mother, Shabnam Singh. She got back at her and said that it was her (Akansha’s) ill habits (one of them being substance abuse) that brought an end to the marriage.

The girl was evicted from the show a couple of days back, and while talking to an entertainment website Akansha levied heavier allegations against the Singh family and said it was not just her but her in-law who were substance abusers too. She didn’t stop there and escalated it further by adding that Yuvraj also used to smoke pot.

The entire scene hasn’t gone down well with Shabnam and she has decided to file a defamation suit against Akansha. “Why do you think she got eliminated? It’s not just because she wasn’t playing the game well but it was due to the fact that she was discrediting Yuvraj, who is a national hero. Obviously, there was public outrage as his fans didn’t like it and voted her out. Yuvi has got a huge fan following and who’s she? She’s merely hopping on Yuvi’s fame and was lying all the time. We will take lawful recourse,” Shabnam was quoted by a portal as saying.

Her lawyer, Daman Bir Sobti said, “Yes, we will be filing a civil suit for damages and a criminal complaint for defamation. We will take video footage from the Bigg Boss house for further proof. She (Akansha) has also been giving a lot of interviews post-eviction. Shabnam will be coming to Chandigarh to discuss the matter with me.”

While replying to the question on her allegations on Yuvraj, his mother said, “My son has given his blood, sweat and tears to the nation, this is insulting to him,”

What was Yuvi’s reaction on the entire incident? Shabnam replied, “Yuvi hasn’t told me anything, he doesn’t get into these things but just one tweet from him and there will be lot of outrage. He prefers keeping quiet. Also, he’s busy with his upcoming wedding and we don’t want to give her publicity. I would have definitely helped her if she’d asked for it, if she wanted to do something in life. It is her right and dignity. But she can’t badmouth us this way. Her lawyers are misguiding her.”

It is not just his mother who is agitated, Yuvraj’s father Yograj Singh who is also a former Indian cricketer said, “What nonsense is she talking? It’s absolute rubbish”

“I’m a father of four children and none of them are drug addicts”, he added.

“Yuvraj, as also my other three children, are like lions. They don’t eat grass…,” continued Yograj Singh.

“The lady who is accusing Yuvraj, should put her own house in order before alleging something”,

Yograj also added, “These allegations will not hamper the chances of my son’s comeback — he will certainly comeback and play for India!”

Dr Anshuman Kumar, an oncologist in Delhi, who is aware of the details of Yuvraj’s cancer and the treatment, said the form of cancer he had was not because of smoking.

“Yuvraj had a gonadal germ cell tumor situated between the two lungs, called mediastinum, but not in the lungs. It was a gene-related cancer (it can be recalled that his father, Yograj Singh, also underwent cancer treatment) and cannot occur due to smoking”, confirmed Dr. Anshuman Kumar, while speaking to the Deccan Chronicles.
