Rohit Sharma has recently been named as the skipper of the Indian team for the upcoming Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He replaced Virat Kohli, India’s regular captain, who was benched as the part of the BCCI’s workload management of the players. The right-handed batsman has been a brute force in the limited-overs format but has strained to find his feet in Test cricket.

The 31-year-old batter last played Test cricket earlier this year during India’s tour of South Africa. However, he flattered to deceive and was later left out for India’s five match-Test series against England. Prior to that, he scored a couple of superlative centuries in the ODI and the T20I series on English soil. He last captained the team when Sri Lanka toured India last year in December.

Rohit all set to lead India

The Maharashtra-born cricketer currently has 18 centuries to his name in 50-over cricket for India and he will be keen to shoulder his team to glory in the multi-nation tournament in the UAE. India are the defending champions and expectations will be high from Rohit and his team. In the meantime, the opening batsman is gearing up to put his best foot forward in the multi-nation event.

Recently, he posted a video where he was seen practising his heart out. He captioned the video and wrote, “Kit up, pick your bat and focus on the next mission. #AsiaCup,”

Meanwhile, Yuzvendra Chahal, the Indian leg-break bowler asked Rohit to tread the attacking route. The tweaker recently played for India ‘A’ in their four-day unofficial Test against South Africa ‘A’ and picked up four crucial wickets.  He reverted his teammate and wrote, “Defence nahi karne ka bhau udaane ka hai @rohitsharma45 bhaiya, (don’t defend brother, go and smash them)”
