Team India is currently involved in the three-match Test series against South Africa which they’ve already lost with one match to go. After the contest in whites, the teams will lock horns in the ODI series which comprises of six matches starting on February 1. The visitors would be keen to trump Proteas in coloured clothing as there will also be a change in personnel in the limited overs format. However, the young leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is keen to visit the country and perform well for India during the tour.
The limited overs specialists are set to take off from India next week. Chahal has been India’s one of the finest wrist spinners in the recent times. He bamboozled a lot of batsmen during the home season last year and has only improved with every game despite playing in the shadow of R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. The leggie would love to win matches for his country against a strong South African unit.
ODIs a different ball game
Yuzvendra Chahal is no stranger to the conditions in the Rainbow Nation having featured for India A few years ago in the tri-series also involving Afghanistan. He was surprised to see the low and slow wicket in Centurion and hoped for the pitches to be same during the contest. “I have already played in South Africa with the India A team, but did not play in the main grounds of the country then. When I saw the Test match wickets in South Africa (especially the second Test), it was completely different. The ball was spinning and keeping low in the second Test,” he told new Indian Express.
The youngster also informed that the limited overs format is a different ball game altogether compared to Tests. “Maybe, in the ODI, with the white ball, it could be a different game. Accordingly, I am practising and training at the NCA,” he added. Chahal is most likely to lead the spin-bowling attack which consists of Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav as well. It would be interesting to see if the wrist-spinning duo can weave their magic in the ODI series.
