Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya would have preferred a better preparation ahead of the ICC World Cup in terms of playing matches. The 25-year-old cricketer has seen quite a bumpy ride in the run-up to the mega event, thanks to injuries and controversies, and is not playing in the current series against Australia which is India’s final international engagement before the WC.
Pandya is considered a key member of the Indian side that will try to win the world title for the third time and the team would have loved to see him getting more games. Pandya was stretchered out of the field during a game against Pakistan in Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates last September because of a serious injury and took quite some time to return to competitive cricket.
He played a first-class game and produced a decent all-round performance and then disaster struck again as he was about to make his international comeback in Australia. He, along with his Team India mate KL Rahul, landed in trouble over uttering controversial words on a popular TV show and was handed a brief suspension. He then was back to play in the series against New Zealand but was ruled again for the Australia series at home because of a stiff lower back. Spinner-all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was named as Pandya’s replacement.
Don’t you have a sponsor, Chahal asks Pandya
Pandya is now undergoing recovery for the upcoming Indian Premier League starting March 23 and then the World Cup. Recently, the Baroda cricketer shared a photograph from his gym session on Instagram in which he is seen posing bare-bodied. Fellow Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal, who is known for involving in funny engagements on social media to his teammates, did not fail to notice it and pulled Pandya’s leg asking whether the latter didn’t have a sponsor.
Pandya was quick to reply saying he had and could also help Chahal having one. Recently, the leg-spinner was mocked over his sticker-less bat by Rohit Sharma with whom Chahal has a good bonding.
