In the first ODI at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, India decided to pack their lineup with a number of all-rounders. Kedar Jadhav, Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja were the ones, who were capable of delivering with both bat and ball. However, the move didn’t quite work out as the Men in Blue found themselves short of a bowler against a power-packed West Indies batting unit.

Even as the likes of Deepak Chahar, Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav and Jadeja were set for the 40 overs, the hosts found it tough with their fifth bowler. Jadhav went for 11 runs in the only over he bowled. Skipper Virat Kohli didn’t resort to his services from there on. Dube was the only bowling option and he flattered to deceive as Shimron Hetmyer laid into him with all his might.

As per Kambli, India felt Chahal’s absence

Jadeja, Chahar and Kuldeep ended their quota early and hence, Kohli had no option, but to bring Dube into the attack. Dube had a nightmare of a day as he conceded 68 runs in the 7.5 overs he bowled. The Caribbean team ended up winning the match by eight wickets with 13 balls to spare. Hetmyer became the Player of the Match for his 106-ball 139 with 11 fours and seven sixes.

After the defeat, Vinod Kambli, the former Indian cricketer, felt that India should have played Yuzvendra Chahal. His comments clearly meant that the home team was a bowler short. The veteran also felt that Dube should have been sent higher up the order.

Dube batted at number eight and came to bat in the 48th over where he managed nine runs off six balls with a boundary. Kambli also reckoned that India doesn’t look a healthy unit without the services of Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya, both of whom are recovering from injuries.

He took to Twitter and wrote, “India look a different team without @Jaspritbumrah93 & @hardikpandya7! I dnt understand why Dube came out to bat so late when he is the hitter in the team. needs to regroup & have a better plan for this West Indian batting line up. @yuzi_chahal should have played.
