Zaheer Abbas appointed the President of Peshawar Zalmi

The former Pakistani legend Zaheer Abbas has been appointed as the President of Peshawar Zalmi, the franchise of Pakistan Super League (PSL). PSL is the franchise based T20 league of Pakistan which has been followed immensely. The third edition of the tournament is all set to begin in February-March 2018 and all the team owners are not leaving any stone unturned to gear up for the contest. The fans are already excited ahead of the players draft which is organised on Sunday.

Zaheer Abbas served his country for almost 16 years in a career which spanned from 1969 to 1985. He was one of the best players at the highest level in the 20th century. He played 78 Test matches for Pakistan and amassed over 5000 runs smashing 12 centuries in the format. Abbas had an even better ODI career and accumulated runs at a strike rate of 84.80 during the period when teams seldom use to score runs quickly.

Chairman welcomes Abbas

The Chairman of Peshawar Zalmi, Javed Afridi, revealed the news of Zaheer Abbas being appointed the President of the franchise on social media website Twitter. He welcomed the stalwart and felt honoured to appoint him at the position. He wrote a message to let the followers of the team know which read, “I would like to welcome Mr. Zaheer Abbas into the Zalmi Family. A stylish batsman of his era, he crafted his innings to perfection, depicting magnificent display of batsmanship. We are honoured to have a stalwart of the game as President Peshawar Zalmi !! #ZaYamZalmai #HBLPSL.”

Peshawar Zalmi are the reigning champions of the competition and are looking to rope in some exciting young talent in the players’ draft on Sunday. They would like to defend the title in the upcoming season which they won under the captaincy of Darren Sammy, the Caribbean cricketer who has won two World T20 for his country.
