Zaheer Khan is one of the best pacers India has ever had. He played a crucial role in India’s World Cup victory in 2011. Almost at the brink of retiring from all forms of cricket, Zaheer is keen to take up the role of a bowling coach if such an offer is awarded to him. He has made up his mind to give back something to the country in the form of coaching the fresh crop of bowlers.

India’s most successful pacer, Zaheer has donned a new hat now. He is a part of the commentary team of the Champions Trophy starting today in England.

If asked to coach the Indian Team

“I haven’t really planned that far ahead. But in terms of keenness, yes, the keenness is there. It is something which I have done throughout my playing career also. If there is someone who wants my advice, I have always been there for them,” Zaheer said as per the quotes on Sportskeeda.

On India’s chances of defending the title

Speaking on India’s chances of defending the title, Zaheer opined that India’s pace battery in the form of Umesh Yadav, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami will pack a punch. But he sounded a note of caution. It’s the batting line-up, with Virat Kohli at the helm which has to deliver.

“With the new rules and fielding restrictions, it is important that you have bowlers who are good enough to bowl in any situation. That’s definitely one thing that goes in India’s favour right now. But in the end, you have got to approach it as a bowling unit that you have to pick up a few early wickets. Batting has always been our strength, and in these conditions, it becomes more important that the batting line-up delivers,” the bowler reasoned.

The speedster reiterated that match situations have changed drastically over the years. Earlier scoring 300 was a mammoth total for the opposition to chase. It’s not now. 300 is a par score which is now chased down easily. He wants the Indian batsman to play with caution and take their own time to settle and be comfortable before wrecking havoc on the opposition bowlers.
