Towards the close of his career, Zaheer Khan became a supremely integral part of the Indian squad. Having been left out for a short while in his late 20’s, Zaheer honed his skills with the art of reverse swing and made a much-anticipated comeback to the Indian side. Of course, several injuries and various other niggles played their part on a batterd and over-worked Zaheer, but he was unrelenting, to say the least.

When it came to touring Australia, one simply cannot describe the importance Zaheer had to play. In fact, such was India skipper MS Dhoni’s reliance on him that he became the quintessential leader of the bowling attack, something that he held onto for the better part of his career into his 30’s.

In the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, one simply could not discount the importnace that was thrust onto the shoulders of Zaheer Khan. Of course, Yuvraj Singh picked up the wickets as he had to, but it was the Zaheer mastery that ensured that the Indians won the world cup eventually.

Recently, Zaheer Khan has been a gentleman in retirement and after having gotten married to former model Sagarika Ghatge, he made a quick visit to one of his old hunting grounds – The Adelaide Oval. The historic ground saw the Indians defeat the mighty Aussies down under for the first time under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly.
