There is a jinx related to Mumbai’s successful run in IPL that the team have never lifted the trophy in an even year. In their 13-year long history in the Indian Premier League, the Mumbai-based franchise reached the final of the tournament six times including this year and have emerged victorious in 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019.

Notably, all the four aforementioned years are odd years. MI had made their maiden IPL final appearance in 2010 (even year) and lost it to Chennai Super Kings by a massive 22 runs. Batting first, CSK had scored 168 in their 20 overs on the back of a stunning half-century from Suresh Raina (57 off 35).

In reply, Mumbai’s batting line-up collapsed at 146 for nine and the Super Kings lifted their maiden IPL trophy. 10 years later, the situation is no different as Mumbai Indians will face Delhi Capitals, who haven’t won a single time.
