After a sluggish start to the Indian Premier League (IPL) where they didn’t win a single title in the first five years, Mumbai Indians (MI) have become the most successful side in the history of the Indian T20 league. No team has won more IPL titles than MI. They have won it four times in the last seven seasons – 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019.

One of the reasons for their success has been the scouting system. Year after year, MI have produced some quality Indian players and have also got the best out of the overseas pool. Players like Jasprit Bumrah, the Pandya brothers, Kieron Pollard, Suryakumar Yadav are among the many stars MI have produced.

Last season, MI did blow hot and cold a little. They had to scrap hard for a few wins. There were a few underperforming players while a few didn’t get a game as well. Thus, ahead of the next season, MI need to filter out a few players.

Here are three players MI should axe ahead of the IPL in 2020:

Barinder Sran

It was in the 2015 season that Barinder Sran made his IPL debut. However, in five years, the left-arm pacer has got an extended run in just one season. In these five seasons, he’s been a part of three teams – Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians.

Last year, MI bought the Punjab pacer for a significant price of INR 3.4 crores in the auction. However, Sran played just a couple of games in the entire season. He didn’t even bowl his full quota of overs even once. He went for runs at an economy of 12.75 this season.

Moreover, Sran hasn’t been in the best of forms either. Thus, with some quality overseas pacers at their disposal and Jasprit Bumrah leading the attack, it may not be a bad option to axe Sran from the squad.
