In recent times, Rohit Sharma has been trying his best to own all sorts of records as an opener in International cricket. However, his record in domestic cricket is as good as his record for the Indian team. Rohit piled on tons of runs especially in the Ranji Trophy until he made his Test debut after years of hard work.

Rohit scored a triple century in the competition which came in only 312 balls. It stood as the fastest by an Indian in domestic cricket and the 2nd fastest FC triple by an Indian behind Virender Sehwag’s 278-ball effort against South Africa.

Here we look at some of the major records that Rohit Sharma created or holds in the Indian domestic circuit:

Manish Pandey’s century in the 2009 IPL and Suresh Raina’s ton during the 2010 WT20 generally come to the mind while discussing the first centuries by Indians in the Twenty20 format. However, much before the first-ever IPL and T20I hundreds by Indians, Rohit Sharma smashed a ton while representing Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Rohit created the feat in only his 2nd T20 appearance during the inaugural edition of SMA T20 in 2006-07 season, the first official T20 tournament on Indian soil. Sharma scored an unbeaten 40 against Baroda on his T20 debut where Mumbai won by 8 wickets. Mumbai were chasing 142 to win in their 2nd game against Gujarat at the Brabourne Stadium.

While Rohit was smashing runs at 200 strike rate, no other Mumbai batter managed to score run a ball. Rohit Sharma struck six fours and three sixes on his way to a 27-ball fifty. He further took only 18 balls to raise the first-ever hundred in the T20 format by an Indian and finished with 101* off 45 deliveries.
