Going into the third and final Test against England, Rahul Dravid won the toss and elected to bat first. It was a very good batting pitch and all the batsmen made full use of the chance. Not even a single Indian batsman had scored a century prior to the match.

Even Karthik’s 91 was not enough to break the jinx. In came MS after the loss of the fifth wicket, he joined Sachin Tendulkar in the middle who was scoring well. He came out to bat in the first session of the second day. The ball was swinging and MS played cautiously against the likes of Jimmy Anderson and co. His inning consisted of beautiful cricket shots and also a bit of his usual unorthodox ones. He was duly supported by Anil Kumble who later went on to score a century, which was incidentally the only Indian century in the series.

Dhoni made full use of his start as he scored at a strike rate of over 100. His inning considered of 9 fours and 4 sixes. It was one of his best Test innings considering the conditions he had to tackle. Though, it was later overshadowed by Kumble’s knock. Dhoni had a good short stint in the second innings as well where he contributed a quickfire 36. This match ended in a draw and India went on to win the series.
