One of the greatest bowlers of the format, Lasith Malinga is second on this list. He is one of the very few players who are playing for the same franchise since the inception of the tournament. He has 170 wickets in 122 games at an economy of 7.14 to his name, making him the highest wicket-taker of all time in the coveted league.

He had a good season last year, taking 16 wickets in 12 games. However, he was expensive, leaking more than 9.7 runs per over. He bowled the crucial last over in the finals last year, and took MI to their fourth title.

Malinga has also opted out of this year’s edition, citing personal reasons. His replacement, James Pattinson, isn’t exactly an experienced customer in this format. It shall be interesting to see how Mumbai get affected with his absence, and how well Jasprit Bumrah would lead the pace attack.
