Arguably one of the most successful West Indies skippers, Daren Sammy has made his country proud on many occasions in the international arena. Born on December 20, 1983, at Micoud, St. Lucia, Sammy wanted to become a cricketer right from his childhood.

Sammy was selected for the tri-series between New Zealand, England, and West Indies played in England in 2004. However, he did not get the start he wanted as his debut match was called off without a single ball being bowled due to rain. The match is counted as his first match since the toss had taken place.

Under his leadership, the Men in Maroon went on to win the T20 World Cup twice in 2012 and 2016. Handy with the ball and destructive with the bat, Sammy had an excellent cricketing mind as he bailed out his team from many difficult situations.
