Before the World Cup 2015 kick-started, India was going through a rough patch and there was a lot of scepticism regarding their title defence. Yet, they humiliated everyone who came their way in the group stages and in the Quarter-finals, they ran through Bangladesh to book a place in the Semi-final against the hosts, Australia.

The Sydney Cricket Ground seemed like the Wankhede, with the blue waves dominating the yellow jerseys in the stands. But when the game started, that little section with the yellow section made better noise as Steve Smith and Aaron Finch emulated a Ponting-Martyn level performance which helped them post a massive 328 runs on board.

Indian openers provided a solid foundation and considering 329 was pretty much condensable, there was some hope of an Indian win. But once the opening partnership was put to bed, Australia cruised past the Indians and though Rahane and Dhoni fought hard, India managed just 233 runs and Aussies entered the final with a 95-run win. This was one of the most remarkable games one can ever come across, considering how the Aussies fell home-sick at their very home, but still managed to infiltrate through the barriers.
