There is no doubt that the game has changed in various ways. Be it the limited-overs cricket or the Test cricket there has been a massive shift in the mindset of the modern-day cricketers. The most notable one being the attacking approach of the batsmen irrespective of the format and game situations. Surprisingly, it has led to another change as now the teams don’t believe in the advantages of batting first or setting-up targets.

In fact, nowadays the teams prefer to chase totals. The pressure of chasing big scores has vanished completely and it can be validated from the recent T20 encounter between New Zealand and India where the latter chased down a total over 200 effortlessly. From this incident, it can be said that the teams are more comfortable when they have a target in their sight. As it happens India is the most successful team in T20Is with 45 wins while batting second.

Unfortunately, the situation changes drastically when Virat Kohli’s men take the field to set targets. The Men in Blue have lost five such games in their last 20 outings. It seems the team follows a set pattern and fails to determine a good total when they are put in to bat first. So, its time that the Indian team break the norms and adopt a positive approach while batting first. Otherwise, the opposition teams will prey on their weakness in this year’s T20 World Cup.
