In the 3rd ODI between India and Sri Lanka in 2009, Sachin Tendulkar couldn’t get to his century because of Dinesh Karthik and Lasith Malinga. Chasing 240 runs, India was at 226/3 after 41 overs. Sachin, who was batting on 90, took a single off the 2nd ball of the 42nd over. Since Sachin was on 91 and there were a lot of deliveries left in the innings, Karthik was expected to play out the remaining four balls without scoring any runs.

But, the wicket-keeper batsman smashed a six off the fifth ball of the over and brought the margin down to 7 runs. Yet, Sachin smashed a boundary and took a single off the first two balls of the next over. India needed two runs to win and the batsman might have got to his century had he hit a four. But, Lasith Malinga ended up bowling five wides in the same over and Sachin couldn’t reach the triple figures.
