Alex Hales sports solid T20 figures with 4852 runs in the 180 T20s that he’s played in his career thus far. However, 2018 hasn’t exactly been his year. Be it the Pakistan Super League (PSL) or the Trans-Tasman T20 Trophy earlier this year, his batting average had been hovering around 18-20 and didn’t improve much in the IPL either. Adding to his woes, Hales was benched for the first seven matches of the IPL, making it difficult for him to prove his worth.

Playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Hales made a successful IPL debut against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) as he opened the innings for his team and scored 45 runs off 39 balls. Unfortunately, the tournament went downhill for him from thereon as he only showed short-lived sparks of his true potential and ended up scoring only 148 runs in 6 games at an average of 24.67.
