In what can possibly be termed as the biggest let-down of the season, Kiwi star batsman Brendon McCullum royally disappointed the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team management for having invested their faith in him. Save his 43-run innings in RCB’s opening game against KKR, McCullum was only a shade of his true, feisty self and was an abject failure in the tournament.

As someone who has a healthy average of above 30 in the T20 format and is fondly remembered by all as the first man to hit a century in the history of the IPL, McCullum could only score 127 runs in the 6 games that he got to play in the 2018 edition of the IPL before he was shown the bench. Since he’d been entrusted with the responsibility of opening the innings for the Virat Kohli-led side from the outset of the league, his failure acted as a serious roadblock to RCB’s chances of victory in more than one game.
