Although Rajasthan Royals (RR) made it to the playoffs and fought tooth and nail to make it to the final stage of the tournament, the decision to keep giving D’Arcy Short innumerable second chances cost them heavily. Once again an under-used player, Short was expected by one and all to be the solution to RR’s top order woes as he’d already smashed 523 runs in just 9 games in the Big Bash League (BBL) before coming over to India.

But things didn’t quite go according to plan. In the 7 matches that he played for RR in IPL 2018, Short accrued a paltry total of 115 runs at a strike rate of 116.16, which is hardly sufficient in a tournament as ruthless and fast-paced as the IPL. His highlight innings of the season was against DD, where he scored 44 runs off 25 balls, with 2 boundaries and 4 sixes in the proceedings. Apart from that, the 27-year-old had a very average season.
