Namibian cricketer Raymond Van Schoor has passed away at the age of 25, five days after collapsing during a match. Van Schoor. Schoor has complained of dizziness and asked for water during a List A match against South African side Orange Free-State. Raymond Van Schoor was immediately rushed to hospital after he collapsed where scans revealed that he had suffered a stroke. The death comes a week before the one-year anniversary of the death of former Australia cricketer Phillip Hughes who also injured on the field during a domestic match in Sydney.

1. Birth:

Raymond Van Schoor was born on May 23, 1990 in Windhoek, Namibia.

2. Family background:

Raymond Van Schoor is son of Melt van Schoor who was also a right-handed batsman and a wicketkeeper. He played five One Day Internationals in the World Cup in 2003. Van Schoor’s father retired from cricket in 2005.

3. Age group cricket:

Namibian Raymond Van Schoor right-handed 25-year-old batsman cum wicketkeeper played his first-class debut in 2007 against Canada. Raymond Van Schoor’s Twenty 20 debut for Desert Vipers was in 2013 against Southern Rocks at Harare.

4. Career Stats:

The wicket keeper-batsman, who had scored 4000 runs over 173 matches in 50-over and 20-over cricket, with 25 half-centuries.He played 92 first-class matches in his career with scoring five centuries.He could also bowl medium-pace and he also took 28 wickets in his career.Raymond has scored more than 8000 runs for Namibia after playing over 200 career matches.

5. As a captain:

Raymond Van Schoor has previously captained Namibia’s Under-15 team, and was one of the youngest players to represent Namibia.He served as both vice-captain and captain for Namibia in the past, leading Namibia a total of 40 times, including in the 2011-12 and 2012-13 Cricket South Africa Provincial One-Day Challenge and Three-Day Cup.

6. Awards:

That same year, Raymond Van Schoor was recognized for his top form from Cricket Namibia after he was named 2012 Cricketer of the Year at their annual awards. During the UAE event van Schoor won three Man of the Match awards – against USA, Uganda and Italy – and finished the group stage as the leading scorer with 323 runs in seven matches.

7. International cricket career:

The 25-year-old recently played the Intercontinental Cup match against Ireland. Raymond Van Schoor had represented Namibia in ICC World Twenty 20 Qualifier campaign in 2015.

8. Unbeaten career:

Raymond Van Schoor had been batting on 15th November, 2015 during Namibia’s five-wicket win over Free State when he collapsed in the hot conditions and it is the last match in his very short span career. 15* Not Out forever.
