Champions League Twenty20, also known as CLT20, was played for six seasons from 2009 to 2014. Top cricket franchises from different leagues around the globe participated in the tournament to claim the title for the best T20 team in the world. A total of 8 teams from the IPL have played in Champions League- which is the most followed by 6 teams from Australia. Franchises from West Indies, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, South Africa, and England have also been part of CLT20.

The tournament was scrapped in 2015 because of less viewership, unresolved sponsor issues, and lack of interest in the audience outside India. To increase the viewership, CLT20 was hosted in India four times out of six. But still, the major boards weren’t satisfied and eventually dissolved the tournament.

In recent years, the money from sponsorship and advertisements has increased multifold and there may be a possibility for the return of the Champions League T20.

Here we look at 8 top teams that would play the Champions League if it is held in the near future:

8. Rajshahi Royals

Andre Russell led the Rajshahi Royals to their maiden Bangladesh Premier League title. He was also the Man of the Match in the final for a cameo of 27 from 16 balls and picking up two wickets. Russell won the Man of the Tournament for his all-round skills. The right-handed all-rounder scored 225 runs at a strike rate of 180 and scalped 14 wickets.

Mohammad Irfan and Andre Russell were Rajshahi’s leading wicket-taker with 14 wickets each. Bangladeshi opener Liton Das was the highest run-scorer for the champions scoring 455 runs at 37 notching up 3 half-centuries. Veteran middle-order batsman Shoaib Malik also scored 455 runs at 37 with 3 half-centuries.

Rajshahi has a skilful blend of experienced players like Russell, Irfan, and Malik with youngsters such as Abu Jayed, Afif Hossain and Mohammad Nawaz. The Rajshahi could make an upset or two if they play in the Champions League- if scheduled.
