Following the loss to Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) in the Departmental One-Day Cup in Karachi, Pakistan Habib Bank Limited (HBL) skipper Ahmed Shehzad has vowed to come back stronger. SNGPL won by four runs after HBL fell just short chasing a target of 290 runs. Asad Shafiq was the leading run-scorer for SNGPL, with a scintillating 119. This was Asad’s second consecutive century in the tournament.

Shehzad, who was leading the HBL franchise, said that his team would fix their issues and come back stronger in the next season of the tournament. The 26-year-old also took to Twitter to express his grievances and promised to make a strong return.

The right-hander took to his Twitter handle and wrote, “This is not the result we wanted..I know that my team fought hard and played like champions. In our farewell meeting just now, we all agreed to raise our spirits and fight harder for next season because we hate loosing. We’ll fix our issues and come back stronger.”

Shehzad recalled to the T20 team

The dynamic opener was recalled to Pakistan’s 15-man squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against New Zealand. Shehzad was replaced in the ODI squad by Azhar Ali, who failed to make the cut for the T20 team. His recent form bodes well for Pakistan. He has scored 403 runs in seven innings in the Departmental One-Day Cup at an average of 67.16 and strike rate of 100.24.

The only other change from the ODI squad was the inclusion of batsman Umar Amin in place of Imamul Haq.

The Men in Green are presently playing a 5-match ODI series against the Kiwis. However, the team from the subcontinent lost on both the occasions, with New Zealand winning the contests via the DLS method. The first of the three T20Is is slated to be played on January 22 at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington.
