Ajinkya Rahane's gesture after winning the historic Test has conquered the fans

India rolled over Afghanistan twice in the day and wrapped up the historic Test match inside two days at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. There was an enormous gulf between the World number 1 Test side and the debutants and the visitors might have definitely got the feel of the longest format of the game. However, Ajinkya Rahane‘s gesture to call the opposition players for a group photo with the trophy won the hearts of the fans as it summed up the relation between the two countries.

There was a lot of anticipation ahead of this Test match as even the Sports Minister of India Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore also made his presence felt at the start of the match. But the proceedings didn’t go as planned for them as Shikhar Dhawan tore apart their bowling attack in the first session itself by scoring a sensational ton. Even his opening partner Murali Vijay played a brilliant knock and scored 105 runs as India posted a daunting total of 474 runs on the board in the first innings.

Afghanistan, however, had a great chance to prove themselves with the bat but the Indian bowlers were too good for them. There was no patience shown by them as the likes of R Ashwin, Ishant Sharma and other bowlers pounced in on the opportunity to skittle them out twice in a day. They managed to score 109 in their first innings and could only post 103 runs in the second attempt thereby handing India an easy victory.

Wonderful gesture

The presentation ceremony took place with both the teams praising each other and the crowd which turned out on both the days to support them. The trophy was presented to the Indian captain Ajinkya Rahane as the whole Indian contingent posed for a photo.

However, the spectators experienced something unusual and heartwarming from Rahane as he invited the whole Afghanistan squad to join them for a group photograph. The crowd erupted in joy as it was the gesture of sportsmanship from the Indian captain.

The official Twitter handle of BCCI posted the video of the same and captioned it as, “What a brilliant gesture from #TeamIndia to ask @ACBofficials players to pose with them with the Trophy. This has been more than just another Test match #SpiritofCricket #TheHistoricFirst #INDvAFG @Paytm.”
