Since ages, Amul has been famous for coming up with catchy taglines and witty takes on seemingly sombre issues. So, it wasn’t a surprise that they came up with something interesting on the current coach-captain turmoil in Indian cricket. Anil Kumble after a persistent snub with Virat Kohli had stepped down as the coach of the Indian team earlier this week.

Be it politics, cricket or economic affairs, the popular dairy brand has come up with their own humorous takes on matters of varying genres through the generations. From the cricketing world, they’ve previously made various sketches on Sachin Tendulkar, Chris Gayle, MS Dhoni, to name a few.

The Kohli-Kumble catastrophe

When renowned leggie of his times, Kumble had been appointed as the coach of the Indian cricket team, there were great expectations from critics and fans alike. He had been trusted with the position by the 3-member panel of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), comprising Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman.

However, the end result was not as pleasant as expected. Kumble reportedly developed an “untenable” working relationship with the captain, Kohli. The duo is said to have disagreed on various topics, ranging from team selection and training methods to the pay model of the team. Kohli and several other players reportedly, found the coach’s attitude “too overbearing” and “headmaster-like”.

Final blow

The final nail in the coffin was delivered after India lost to Pakistan in the finals of the recently concluded Champions Trophy. The Indian bowling squad fared miserably, conceding too many extras. This did not go down well with the coach at all, who is said to have given some of the bowlers “quite an earful” after the match.

Soon after, Kumble resigned from his post, leading to much speculation and creating a storm in the entire cricketing world.

Amul’s take

Titled as “Strormy Clouds over Indian Cricket”, Amul posted a cartoon sketch via its Twitter handle, Amul.coop. It shows a cartoon figure resembling Kumble in the middle of a heated talk, while the players don’t seem too happy and a disgruntled Kohli looks the other way. The witty tagline on the top of the toon reads, “SabCoach sikha humne, na seekhi koi yaari?”(We’ve learnt everything, but not camaraderie?), with the pun being on the word “Coach”.
