Mumbai off-spinner Ankush Jaiswal, who was suspended by the board for bowling with a suspicious action has gained a new lease of life after he was cleared by the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) on Thursday. The 25-year-old bowler underwent bio mechanical tests at the Ramchandra Arthroscopy and Sports Science Center in Chennai on July 11. Following the test, the sports centre has confirmed that Ankush’s bowling action has been cleared and he can bowl again in all matches conducted by the BCCI.

Ankush’s father, who works as a groundsman at MIG Cricket Club in East Bandra was also excited by the news. Apart from Ankush, two other Mumbai spinners, left-handed Vishal Dabholkar and part-time off-spinner Akhil Herwadkar were reported for suspicious bowling actions. As a result, all three of them were omitted from Mumbai’s squad for their last group match of the 2015-16 Ranji Trophy season against Gujarat.

Remodeling the action

Recalling the tremendous hard work he put in to bring about the transition in bowling style, Ankush said, “I patiently worked on my action during the last one and a half year. Omkar Salvi (Mumbai’s bowling coach) sir worked on my body alignment and he always gave me that confidence that I would be cleared soon,” he was quoted by Mid Day.

He further added, “It was quite a testing time for the wily off-spinner during his ban. I went through a lot of frustration during the last year as I was working on my action. “Everyone was asking me what happened, but I had no answer to give. MCA gave me moral support and in particular Salvi sir. I want to perform and get back in the Mumbai team again.”

However, left-arm spinner Sidak Singh and left-arm pacer Riddhesh Pawar, who appeared for tests alongside Jaiswal, have to wait longer as their results are yet to be declared.
