Afghanistan carried on from where they left against Sri Lanka as they registered a big 136-run win over Bangladesh to top the Group B. The Afghan top-order struggled to get the runs coming in until Gulbadin Naib was joined by Rashid Khan. The pair added 95 runs in the last 55 balls of their innings as Afghanistan ended up with 255/7. Bangladesh innings’ first boundary was recorded in the 15th over by which they were already four down. All the main-stay bowlers picked up wickets for Afghanistan as Bangladesh were bowled out for only 119.

All the major stats and numbers that were recorded during Afghanistan’s big win against Bangladesh:

1 – Rashid Khan became the first player to score a fifty and take multiple wickets on birthday in an ODI game. 23 players before Rashid have scored 50+ in an ODI on their birthday but none of them took more than one wicket in the same game.

1 – Rashid Khan’s six during his fifty is the only six to be recorded during this game. This is only the 5th Asia Cup game to last more than 90 overs with one or fewer number of sixes hit in the game. No six was hit during the Bangladesh-Hong Kong game in the 2004 edition in Colombo.

1 – This was Bangladesh’s maiden international match in Abu Dhabi. They took part in five ODIs in Sharjah in 1995 and the game against Sri Lanka earlier in this Asia Cup being their first in Dubai.

2 – Afghanistan now have defeated Bangladesh in both their encounters in the Asia Cup. They defeated the Bangla team by 32 runs in their first ever ODI meeting by 32 runs in 2014.

4/42 – Shakib Al Hasan became only the 2nd Bangladesh player to take a 4-wicket haul in the Asia Cup. Saiful Islam claimed 4/36 in his ten overs against Sri Lanka in the 1995 edition.

7 – Shakib Al Hasan’s four-fer is the seventh in the Asia Cup to be on the losing side with three of them coming in this edition only. Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga (4/23) and Thisara Perera (5/55) took a four-fer each during their losses against Bangladesh and Afghanistan respectively.

31 – Rashid Khan brought up his fifty from only 31 balls in this game. He ended up with an unbeaten 57 off 32 balls. Among the 25 fifty-plus ODI scores on the birthday before this game, only Yusuf Pathan took fewer balls during his 29-ball 50* against England in 2008 for his fifty than Rashid.

136 – Afghanistan’s 136-run win in this game is their 4th biggest in terms of runs in ODI cricket. Their top three ODI wins in terms of runs; 154 and 146 against Zimbabwe, and 138 against Ireland have come in the 2017/18 season. Moreover, all of the three wins came in Sharjah.
