2016 has not started well for India as a poor bowling performance against Australia while defending 309 runs saw them loose the first match of 2016. It was also for some brilliant batsmenship by twin centurion Steven Smith and George Bailey that made the sail easy for the Aussies. While defending 309, Indian bowlers were never in the game apart from first 10 overs when Barinder Saran got the wickets of Aaron Finch and in-form David Warner but after that what happened is history as Smith and Bailey stitched a 242 runs partnership and created and broken many records.
While batting first after Shikhar Dhawan’s wicket the duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli made a humongous 207-run partnership as Rohit made his ninth overall and fourth hundred against Australia and remained not out till the end while Kohli got out for 91 trying to increase the scoring rate as India posted a total of 309 runs with some useful cameos from MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja but it was not enough as Australia chased it with four balls and 5 wickets in hand.
