With a stellar performance in 2016, Babar Azam claimed a permanent spot in the Pakistan batting line-up. The right-handed batsman proved his mettle scoring three consecutive ODI hundreds which led to a test debut in the same year. However, the youngster failed to score runs consistently, especially in the longer format.

He averages just about 24 in Test Cricket after playing 12 matches with a high score of 90. Babar has had a better record in limited overs cricket. The right-handed batsman averages just above 50 in ODIs and 53 in T20 cricket. He has featured in 41 ODIs and 20 T20s since his debut in 2016. Though being back as one of the best batsmen in the team, Azam is yet to perform in whites.

Babar Azam is the next star – Younis:

Former Pakistan Cricketer, Younis Khan strongly feels that Babar Azam has the capability of making a huge impact in Test Cricket. The former batsman opined that Azam will fill all the voids, the former greats, Misbah and Younis left in the Pakistan batting line-up.

“I think Babar will be the next Younis or Misbah.  I think he’s extremely stylish and he has the potential. If he plays, and he works on his fitness, then I think he will perform a lot for Pakistan. Babar is growing up and he performs not only in the one-dayers and Twenty20 games, he performs everywhere,” Younis Khan said as quoted by Omnisport.

Since the retirement of Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan, Pakistan has not performed well, except in a few instances. The young team has failed miserably under pressure. Except for a few names such as Azhar Ali, and, Sarfraz Ahmed, the rest batsmen have had a tough couple of years. However, the former batsman is confident that the emerging players will rise to occasions.

“They will handle it. People have a lot of concerns about the team struggling to cope with the pressure but I think they will be okay. So, I think they will be able to handle these kinds of conditions and I think Pakistan is in a good shape as well, so I think this will be a nice series,” Younis added speaking about the upcoming England series.
