Earlier this month, Bangladesh agreed to play a One Day International series against Afghanistan at Dehradun. However, they have now decided to play a three-match T20 International series instead of the proposed ODI series. The decision has been made in order to prepare for the ICC World T20 to be scheduled in 2020 as per reports in CricBuzz.

Recently, during the meeting of the board of directors in Mirpur, the alteration of the series has been made. Bangladesh will be touring the Windies after the Afghanistan series., hence they were looking for a venue which is not too hectic in terms of travelling. However, owing to the preoccupancy of the other venues, they had to be satisfied with Dehradun.

“Other venues are preoccupied”- Nazmul Hasan

Nazmul Hasan, the President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) made the announcement.”We have ICC T20 World Cup ahead but we are not playing enough T20I matches. So we decided to play the series against Afghanistan in T20 format. We will play the series in Dehradun as other venues are preoccupied. Moreover, the BCB president wanted either of Kolkata and Bangalore as a venue.

Earlier, as per sources of the BCB, it was learned that Afghanistan wanted the games to be staged in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Nevertheless, that wasn’t the case and the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) resorted to playing in India where they have played before, though in a different stadium in Greater Noida.  Afghanistan will recently make their debut in Test cricket against India in Bangalore.

Last year Afghanistan along with Ireland was promoted from Associates to Full Members. Subsequently, they gained Test status and both are scheduled to play their maiden Test in a month’s time. While the Afghans will play India at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Pakistan will lock horns with Ireland in Dublin.
