The Bangladesh vs Windies game came to life with a no ball call. Batting first Evin Lewis had powered the visitors towards a massive total but they had to settle with 190 being bowled out in 19.2 overs. The hosts had just begun their chase, their pursuit of a high asking rate was aided by Oshane Thomas who bowled two no balls and one wide in the second over that went for 17 runs. In his next, he was called for overstepping again but he hadn’t.

Bangladesh caught up the momentum in the second over and Liton Das hit Thomas for a six on the first ball of the next over, the third ball got him a boundary and the fifth was called a no ball and hit for a boundary. Replays suggested his heel was behind the line and thus it was a legal delivery. The free hit earned him six runs, then there was a wide delivery and the pacer was really struggling now to complete the over.

The sixth ball again was called no, the batsman hit it straight to mid-off and was caught. Replays on the big screen again suggested it was not a no ball. Windies were furious now. It wasn’t just an incorrect call but also denied them a wicket. Carlos Brathwaite now wanted to review the decision, he asked for DRS. The two on-field umpires Tanvir Ahmed and Masudur Rahman had a discussion and then referred it to the third umpire.

It was easy for the TV umpire to call that the bowler hadn’t overstepped but could he overturn the decision? For a while, the umpire even gave it out. But Liton Das didn’t leave his ground. The fourth umpire Sharfuddoula was at the boundary ropes now discussing the matter with the Windies coaching staff.

Brathwaite clearly dissatisfied with his discussion with the two umpires walked up to him and they had an animated debate there. Considering the gravity of the incident and that the situation was going out of hand the Match Referee Jeff Crowe also stepped in. He walked to the scene and explained the entire scenario to the Windies skipper.

In the end, going by the rule book it was not given out, in fact, the no ball as well as the free hit also stayed and the game moved forward.

Here is the video of the interesting incident where Tanvir Ahmed called a no ball that wasn’t:
