Tamim Iqbal etched his name in the history books of Bangladesh cricket during his knock of 45 against England. The stage was set for the series decider against England at Chittagong. Tamim Iqbal started off the match with a tally of 4962 runs. When he completed his 38th run en route his eventual score of 45, he became the first Bangladeshi player to score 5000 runs in ODI cricket history. Tamim Iqbal has been the pillar stone of Bangladesh batting for quite some time now.

Bangladesh are no longer considered to be the pushovers in the international cricket. Bangladesh made an entry to ODI cricket way back in 1986. Since then, there have been impact players who have taken Bangladesh cricket to a whole new level. While there have been many players who came, very few have had a lasting impact. Tamim Iqbal has 5007 runs to his name in 159 matches at an average of 32.30. He made his debut way back in 2007 against Zimbabwe. He has a top score of 154 against Zimbabwe in 2009.

Tamim Iqbal has also scored the most number of centuries for Bangladesh with 7 centuries to his name. All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is closing in on the 5000 landmark. He has aggregated 4566 runs in 163 matches. His average of 34.85 is the highest among the top 10 batsmen with most runs for Bangladesh. Wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim recently crossed the 4000 run mark in the 2nd ODI against England in the same series.

Mohammad Ashraful, the star of the last decade of Bangladesh, had to curtail his ODI run tally at 3468 runs in 175 matches. He remains to be the most capped Bangladeshi player in ODIs. However, his average has been on the lower side being just 22.37. Mahmadullah is nearing the 3000 run mark with 2854 runs to his name in 131 matches. Opening batsman Shahriar Nafees (2201 runs) and former captain Habibul Bashar (2168 runs) are the only other cricketers who have crossed the 2000-run mark in ODIs for Bangladesh.
