BBL 2020-21: Match 52, SIX vs HUR – Wade’s record knock, D’Arcy only behind Lynn, Abbott @ 100 wickets and more stats

Hobart Hurricanes defeated Sydney Sixers by mere seven runs at the MCG on Sunday despite owning the majority of the game. The opening pair of Matthew Wade (86 off 44) and D’Arcy Short (72 off 52) shared a 145-run stand in only 14.3 overs but the Hurricanes were restricted to only 188/8. In reply, the Sixers lost their top three for only 37 runs on the board in five overs but Moises Henriques’ counter-attacking 25-ball 43 pulled Sixers back into the game. A collapse followed by Moises’ dismissal made the chase impossible but Jordan Silk went down fighting with a 49-ball 78.

Hurricanes get the better of Sixers:

8 – Sydney Sixers now have lost as many as 8 games against the Hobart Hurricanes which are the 2nd most number of defeats for them against any team in the BBL (Perth Scorchers – 10 losses).

The Hurricanes have not lost any of the four matches they played against Sixers since the start of the 2019-20 season. Hurricanes won three of those four games; all three defending a target while another game ended in a washout.


D’Arcy only behind Lynn:

20 – D’Arcy Short now has 18 fifty-plus scores in the Big Bash League which includes two centuries. Chris Lyn leads the list with 23 scores in the excess of while D’Arcy shares the 2nd spot with Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh.

4 – D’Arcy has four fifties across seven innings in the BBL against the Sydney Sixers; the 2nd most fifties by any player against Sixers behind Glenn Maxwell (5). D’Arcy scored 322 runs in the seven innings against the Sixers at an average of 46 and a strike rate of 142.47.


Wade’s record knock:

86 – Matthew Wade’s 86-run knock during SIX vs HUR is now the highest individual score for the Hurricanes against the Sixers in the BBL surpassing Phil Jacques’ 73 way back in the 2011-12 season.

In overall, Wade’s 86 is only behind Josh Philippe’s unbeaten 86 for the Sixers during the 2018-19 season among the list of highest individual scores during the BBL games between Sixers and Hurricanes.


A big knock down the order from Silk:

78 – Jordan Silk’s 78-run knock is now the highest individual score in the BBL while batting at No.5 or a lower position for the Sydney Sixers. Silk broke his own record which he created by scoring 69* against Sydney Thunder in the 2014-15 season.

Overall, this was the 6th highest individual score in the BBL by any player while batting at No.5 or lower. Four of Silk’s five fifties in the BBL came while batting at No.5 or a lower position.


Abbott @ 100 wickets:

101 – Sean Abbott completed 100 wickets in Big Bash League with the first of his two wickets during the SIX vs HUR game. Abbott is now only the 2nd player in the BBL with 100+ wickets after Ben Laughlin (110). Abbott has 91 wickets to his name while playing for Sydney Sixers; the most BBL wickets by any player for a single team.


The record-breaking pair:

4 – D’Arcy Short and Matthew Wade together put on 143 for the first wicket during SIX vs HUR game. This was the 4th 100-run partnership between Short and Wade making them the first such pair in Big Bash League history. Alex Carey/Jake Weatherald, Brendon McCullum/Chris Lynn and Liam Livingstone/Josh Inglis had three 100-run partnerships apiece in the BBL.

  


Christian’s record duck:

7 – Daniel Christian now has been dismissed for a duck on seven occasions; the joint-most ducks for a player in the Big Bash League. Daniel Sams, Ben Dunk and Callum Ferguson also bagged seven ducks apiece in the BBL.

13 – 13 out of 19 ducks by Daniel Christian in his Twenty20 career came on Australian soil. No player other than Christian has more than nine T20 ducks in Australia.


Meredith goes for plenty:

55 – Riley Meredith conceded 55 runs during the SIX vs HUR game which are the 2nd most runs conceded by any player during a BBL match for the Hobart Hurricanes. Shaun Tait in the 2016-17 season and Tymal Mills in the 2017-18 season conceded 56 runs each while playing against Melbourne Stars.
