All-round cricketer Benny Howell has a truckload of experience in the English domestic circuit, having played 76 first-class, 76 List A and 107 T20s. While the 30-year-old has been effective with the willow in hand, having notched over 5000 runs, he also boasts of over 250 wickets in domestic cricket. However, the Bordeaux, France-born cricketer is yet to don the national jersey.
Currently, he is plying his trade for the Mashrafe Mortaza-captained Rangpur Riders in the sixth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). During the event, the experienced campaigner also had the chance of rubbing shoulders with the likes of likes of AB de Villiers, the former South African cricketer, who is one of the most sought-after players doing the rounds in the T20 format.
Howell has more reasons to cheer as he is most likely to take part in the 2020 auction of the prestigious IPL and the same was promised to him by De Villiers. “He did, yeah. He likes what I do. He said, next year he will put my name in the IPL. He likes what I do. I just got to keep doing it and perform with the bat and the bowl. Yeah, it’s pretty good to speak with him,” Howell was quoted as saying in Cric Frenzy.
Words of appreciation for Rangpur Riders
Apart from De Villiers, Howell, playing his third BPL season, also had the opportunity playing alongside the likes of Ravi Bopara, Chris Gayle, Alex Hales, and Rilee Russouw, all of whom have tasted success at the highest level. The Riders also have former Australian cricketer Tom Moody as their head coach. Quite expectantly, Benny was all praises for his franchise and it’s players.
“I love it. Rangpur is great. It’s a great set up. Tom Moody runs the show pretty well and there is a lot of unbelievable players in the side. AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle, Alex Hales, Rilee Rossouw and Ravi Bopara, everyone. It’s has been a great experience,” he added.
