Brett Lee and his erst-while rival Alastair Cook have had their own share of memories on the field of play and it’d be fair to say they are two of the finest ambassadors this game has seen. With “The Chef” calling it the day on his legendary career, tributes have been pouring in from across the cricketing fraternity, from teammates, friends and also his rivals.

Alastair Cook finished his International career as the 6th highest run-scorer of all time in Test cricket. With 12,472 runs in 161 Tests, it’s needless to say that the 33-year-old is one of the best batsmen the gentleman’s game has come across. His orthodox and gritty approach to the game made Brett Lee term him a “Farmer”, which goes pretty well with his style of play.

Apart from thanking him for his mind-boggling service to the game, he also confessed that it was a pleasure playing against him. “Thanks for the memories Cookie, a class act! It certainly was a pleasure to play against you,” Lee said in his Tweet.

Cook bows out with a ton

It all began with a century for Cook in his debut Test against India in Nagpur and it was befitting that he ended his career against the same opposition with a three-figure score. Cook, who scored 74 in the first innings, registered a well-constructed century in his final innings.

Alongside skipper Joe Root, who too registered a hundred, the hosts frustrated the Indian bowlers. The duo gave nothing away during their stint in the middle and collected every run patiently. They added a humongous 259-run stand for the third wicket, which virtually was a knockout blow for Virat Kohli and his side.

Just the way it happened in the case of several legendary players, Cook got out for the final time to an unlikely source. Hanuma Vihari scalped him caught-behind as the man walked back for the final time after registering 147 runs in 286 balls and ensured his side are in a commanding position to win the series 4-1.
