In the ongoing Marsh One-Day Cup, Victoria and South Australia were involved in an epic battle to register their birth in the finals. However, both sides failed to secure their spot but one thing that hogged the spotlight was the catch taken by Cameron Valente of Peter Handscomb.

It was a crucial encounter in which South Australia posted a mammoth total of 322 runs at a loss of five wickets. The game went to the last delivery but the Victoria couldn’t outclass the score that was set by the team batting first.

Cameron Valente defies gravity and takes a brilliant catch

Victoria got off to a poor start during their chase as they lost their two wickets in the first five overs of the match. But, then, the right-handed batsman Peter Handscomb, joined the opener, Aaron Finch and stitched a partnership of 147 runs and South Australia started losing their grip on the game. However, they got a breakthrough when Valente took a blinder that left everyone in awe along with commentators present in the box.

The incident occurred on the penultimate ball of Kane Richardson’s seventh over when Handscomb (87 runs off 75 balls) tried to hit the ball over the mid-off in his quest to get a boundary. But, he remained unsuccessful in getting his accurate timing on the shot against the shot pitched delivery of the pacer. At that very moment, Valente ran a meter towards his left and grabbed an impossible-looking catch with his left hand defying the gravity.

The commentator said that it was an exceptional shot and recited that the Victorian fielder looked like a Superman. Even the dismissed batsman was also left in shock after witnessing a brilliant fielding effort. “You will not see a better catch than that, Valente takes to the sky like superman without the cape. One-handed brilliance. And Handscomb shakes his head and says ‘how can I be out,” Commentator Mark Howard said as quoted by news.com.au

In the end, Aaron Finch ended as the top scorer of South Australia after playing a commendable knock of 119 runs off 123 balls. During a run-fest of 643 runs, Callum Ferguson, also became the leading scorer for South Australia in One-Dayer’s with 3,999 runs.
