The renowned commentator Dean Jones has claimed that the people should not be hypocritical of the recent blasts in Kabul. The bomb blast took place outside the Kabul International Stadium during the Shpageeza Cricket League match. Jones was commentating the match when the incident occurred.

Several people were killed in the attack, with terrorist group Islamic State claiming responsibility. A total of twenty-four overseas players from countries including South Africa, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and the West Indies are taking part in the league. Zimbabwe cricket board has recalled its 9 players from the league due to the blasts which will surely affect the popularity of the T20 league in Afghanistan.

It nearly shook us out of our seats

Dean Jones, the former Australian batsman was shocked after the incident and explained the situation of the commentators and the players after they came to know about the incident. He also mentioned that they were told it was a gas cylinder explosion.

“The bomb went off outside the checkpoint outside our main gates here. The Minister of Interior told us there were five soldiers killed and civilians [too]. The bomb blast went off, the players hit the ground, the shock wave came through the grandstand and the commentary booth, it nearly shook us out of our seats,” he said.

“Then they told us straight after the game that it was a suicide bomber, which changed the whole mood of the players,” Jones added. The commentator also cleared that he has no intentions of leaving the country and he will continue with his job of commentating in the league.

“Our security has been given presidential status, which means they clear the roads fully to get us to and from the ground. I was [conscious of the risks before I came.] I’m not expecting to play golf and go down to the beach, but we knew it was there. But at the same time, you can’t be hypocritical because we had terrorist attacks in London, and everyone stayed,” Dr Deano stated.
