Just a couple of weeks ago when Australia defeated South Africa in the first Test, people were hailing how brilliant Steve Smith and company were. But it takes a momentary lapse in integrity and one big error of judgment to turn the tables upside down. Whilst Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft were handed very heavy bans, Windies cricketer Chris Gayle opined that the Cricket Australia was a bit too harsh.
The Jamaican legend tweeted his opinion on the latest scandal which sent shock-waves in the cricketing circuit across the globe. A lot of other incidents like James Sutherland‘s press conference on Tuesday and the way Smith was being dragged by Policemen in the Airport sparked severe outrage as well. But as one would expect, Gayle opened both his arms to give these cricketers a helping hug.
He said that these cricketers will have to live with this incident for the rest of their lives and try to find a way to move on. He also said that the doors of his house are always open in Jamaica for them.
“Oi Oi Oi! It’s not my business but it’s done and dusted! I think 1 year is harsh! But to the 3 youngsters, Y’all gonna have to live with this – reflect quickly and know there’s a lot of life ahead so don’t stop here! Feel free to come see me in Jamaica anytime,” Gayle wrote on his official Twitter handle.
4th Test to begin on Friday
The 4th Test between South Africa and Australia will commence on Friday at the New Wanderers, Johannesburg. Whilst the Proteas are eying a historic series triumph against the Aussies, the visitors are palpably destroyed with the events that have unfolded in the last one week.
Matt Renshaw, Glenn Maxwell, and Joe Burns have already landed in Johannesburg to replace the penalized cricketers. Whilst Burns and Renshaw are direct replacements for Warner and Bancroft as openers. Peter Handscomb might get a nod ahead of Maxwell. Tim Paine will be leading the Australian side in these precarious hours.
