The Caribbean Premier League 2019 has been witnessing one amazing moment after another since it has gotten underway. From Chris Gayle’s 22nd T20 century to St. Kitts and Patriots chasing down a record 242-run target; the tournament has lived up to its name of being the best form of entertainment in the Americas. Something similar was seen in the latest game between Barbados Tridents and St. Lucia Zouks.

The 17th game of the ongoing season was played at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium on Friday (September 20). The Zouks were outplayed in all aspects of the game by the Tridents as they lost the match by a big margin of 71 runs. The loss has badly hurt their chances of qualification for the final four, as they now have only one win and four defeats from five games they have played.

Carter sets the stage ablaze with his catch

The Tridents were masterful in their dominant win over the Zouks and excelled in all facets of the game, but the highlight of the match remained the brilliant catch from Jonathan Carter during the Zouks’ innings, that sent back their skipper Darren Sammy for just 2 runs on the board. The catch was taken during the 8th over of the innings bowled by Raymon Reifer.

Sammy managed to guide the short ball bowled by Reifer towards the point area. However, the ball went high in the air and Carter stationed at the position managed to pluck the ball out of thin air with just one hand and went on a well-deserved celebration.

The official Twitter account of the CPL shared the video of the catch with the caption reading, “Take a bow, Jonathan Carter! What a catch! Check out the play of the day from match 17 #CPL19 #Biggestpartyinsport”

Talking about the match, Tridents batted first after being put in by Zouks captain Sammy and managed 172/6. Opener Justin Greaves top-scored with a 45-ball 57, while Jonathan Carter and Johnson Charles also played valuable cameos of 21-ball 30 and 19-ball 28 respectively. Kesrick Williams was the most successful Zouks bowler with figures of 3/44, while Obed McCoy picked 2/19.

In reply, Zouks didn’t have an answer to a disciplined Tridents’ bowling attack, as only Fletcher (14), De Grandhomme (28) and Viljoen (31) reached double figures, with the team being bundled out for 101 runs. Joshua Bishop and Jason Holder picked two wickets each for Tridents.
