LSG have won four of their six outings thus far whereas Hardik Pandya and Co. have won three off their five games. Speaking about their head-to-head records, the two franchises have contested in two matches since their debut in 2022.
The defending champions have won on both occasions and will be gunning to add another win in their next meeting. On the other hand, LSG could make a few changes for the upcoming clash but will look to maintain the same result as they did against the Royals. An exciting match is on the cards as both sides lock horns at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Saturday, April 22.
Here’s Lucknow Super Giants’ predicted XI against Gujarat Titans:
Openers: KL Rahul (c), Quinton de Kock
Quinton de Kock could be given the green light to join the XI in the upcoming game against Gujarat Titans. Though Kyle Mayers has been getting the runs for his side, LSG could likely list him as the Impact Player.
In 2022, skipper KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock did the bulk of the scoring for the side as compared with the middle order. The two will look to hand solid starts and raise big partnerships in the forthcoming matches assuming the South Africa keeper-batter makes the cut.
Rahul was yet again right in the eye of controversy after carving out another slow innings against the Royals. The skipper scored a delicate 32-ball 39 and was unable to shift gears post-powerplay and was eventually dismissed. He will need to swiftly change his approach and play big innings considering that the second leg of the league is set to begin.
Middle Order: Nicholas Pooran (wk), Ayush Badoni
Nicholas Pooran has been an integral member of the setup and has delivered the goods on certain occasions. However, the batter needs to get consistent in his game and get the required big scores coming in the middle order.
23-year-old batter, Ayush Badoni, is still trying hard to settle down in the XI. He played a vital knock of 30 runs against RCB, coming in as the Impact Player. However, since then, he has been inconsistent and unable to play his natural game. Ayush will aim for an improved outing against the Titans in the forthcoming clash.
All-rounders: Marcus Stoinis, Krunal Pandya, Deepak Hooda
Getting to bowl his first overs in the IPL this season against RR, Marcus Stoinis relished a fine outing as he got two wickets for mere 28 runs in his four overs. However, he seemed to have struggled quite a bit with the bat as he could manage only two boundaries in his delicate knock of 21 off 16 balls.
Despite this, the star all-rounder has given glimpses of how lethal he can get once he settles down in the middle. Following his Player of the Match performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Krunal Pandya has been rather underwhelming in the last three outings.
LSG will hope that he finds his groove in the upcoming games as he is pivotal for the team's success. Deepak Hooda would undoubtedly want to hit the restart button to his campaign. The all-rounder has failed to provide any kind of impact coming down the order.
Apart from the first game against Delhi Capitals (17 runs), the batter has returned a string of single-digit scores of 2, 7, 9, 2, and 2 in his last five outings. While it will not be a surprise if the management decides to drop him in the upcoming game, however, it remains to be seen if he can help extinguish the dismal campaign with impactful innings against Gujarat.
Bowlers: Naveen-ul-Haq, Avesh Khan, Yudhvir Singh Charak, Ravi Bishnoi
Despite posting an underwhelming score of 154 in the first innings against Rajasthan, it was LSG’s disciplined bowling performance that earned them the two points. Playing his first match this season against the Royals, Naveen-ul-Haq returned impressive bowling figures.
Though he was unable to get a wicket to his name, the pacer gave mere 19 runs in his four overs. Likewise, spinner Ravi Bishnoi played a key role in keeping his team steady in the contest as he did not let the rival batters target him for the big runs.
In his four overs, the 22-year-old leggie only gave away two boundaries and concluded with an economy of 6.25, with just 25 runs given. Avesh Khan stamped his authority on the Royals as he decked the middle order, getting a three-wicket haul.
Much like Bishnoi, Avesh too returned economical figures of 6.25 in his four overs and will look to carry his form in the upcoming game. Yudhvir Singh Charak endured a forgetful outing in the previous game as he was hammered for 27 runs in his two overs with an economy of 13.50 and failed to hand any breakthroughs in the contest.
However, the management could field him in the forthcoming game despite one poor outing in the league phase. In any case, the 25-year-old pacer will aim to get back his rhythm and get the breakthroughs as he did in the match against Punjab. The Jammu-born pacer claimed two wickets in his three overs for mere 19 runs.
