Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) will be up against each other in the 20th match of the IPL 2024. Both teams have had a similar journey in the ongoing league. MI have lost all their matches so far. They are placed in the last position at the moment and need a win to be in contention. They would be desperate for a win. The return of Suryakumar Yadav might be a much-needed confidence booster considering the impact he brings to the table.
DC is placed just a position above MI in the points table. They have won one and lost three of their games. In their last game, DC suffered a huge loss of 106 runs against KKR after conceding a record 272 runs as a bowling unit. It is the second-highest total in the history of the league. Barring a few players, they have not fired as a unit yet. The key for them would be to perform as a team. Rishabh Pant will have a challenge against the home side.
Both teams would be hoping to win the upcoming game. The match is set to take place at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It will be the second match at the venue. The home side will start as the favourites given the quality of players. On the other hand, DC has some of the best players in the world like David Warner, Tristan Stubbs, Mitchell Marsh, Anrich Nortje, Axar Patel, Rishabh Pant, and so on.

Here is the probable playing XI for MI for the match against DC in IPL 2024, Match 20:
Openers - Ishan Kishan (WK) and Rohit Sharma
At the top, MI has two aggressive openers, Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma. In the second half of the last season, the duo batted well and gave good starts to MI. The left-right combination works well for the side. They have a good record of batting in Mumbai. Rohit Sharma is a rejuvenated batter who can go hard at the bowlers while Kishan smashes the bowlers well at the top and resorts to anchoring later in the middle.
Rohit has been amongst the most experienced batters in the league. The star batter has been in good form in the IPL 2024. The right-handed batter did not have a great outing against RR but would be hoping to make an impact in the game against DC. Kishan needs to have a great season as a batter in order to return to the Indian team. His performance in the IPL 2024 will decide his spot in the T20 WC 2024 squad.

Middle order - Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Tim David
In the middle order, MI has an established unit. Among them, Suryakumar Yadav is the one to watch out for. The unorthodox batter will be back after being out of action in the last few months due to a thigh injury. He would be aiming to make an impact in the middle overs phase. To follow him would be Tilak Varma, who has played a couple of good knocks for MI in the ongoing season.
The Southpaw has been one of the best batters in the MI squad but needs support from the other end too. The form of some of the batters is a concern for MI. Tim David is the designated finisher. The Australian batter was good against SRH but could not perform well against GT and RR. He can finish the innings well given the range of hitting. Coming into the tournament, he has been in blistering form.
All-rounders - Naman Dhir and Hardik Pandya (C)
In the all-rounders category, MI has some good options. In the pace-bowling department, MI has the class of Hardik Pandya. The star player can win matches on his own with the bat and be handy with the ball. He has the ability to strike the ball well and bat in an aggressive way. As a bowler, he can be handy with the new ball. Given the conditions in Mumbai, he will be good with swing and seam bowling.
MI has an option like Naman Dhir who can make an impact as an all-rounder. While he has not bowled as much in the league so far, Naman has been impressive as a batter. He can step up with the ball if required. He is likely to bat at number 3 despite the return of Suryakumar Yadav. Dewald Brevis might have to miss out due to the team combination.
Bowlers - Jasprit Bumrah, Gerald Coetzee, Kwena Maphaka, Piyush Chawla, and Akash Madhwal (Impact substitute)
With the new ball, MI has a lot of options. Hardik Pandya and Kwena Maphaka are likely to start the proceedings. Jasprit Bumrah is likely to be introduced later in the innings. Pandya has better control over his swing. Maphaka with his seam movement would be brilliant at Wankhede, though he has not been able to make an impact so far. Bumrah might bowl an over in the Powerplay before returning with the old ball.
In the middle overs, MI has the sole spinner in Piyush Chawla. The experienced player is a wicket-taking bowler and can turn the matches with his spells. To assist him would be Gerald Coetzee who can be deadly with his pace. At the death, Bumrah will be operating along with Akash Madhwal. The duo form arguably the best bowling pair in the last 4-5 overs. They will be very difficult to be hit by the batters.
