The inaugural Indian Premier League champions, Rajasthan Royals (RR) have consistently performed well in recent years, regularly reaching the playoffs. In the 2024 edition, under Sanju Samson's leadership, they finished third in the group stage with eight wins from 14 games. They started the knockout stages with a bang as they defeated the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the eliminator by four wickets but fell short against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Qualifier 2.

As the mega-auction approaches, the Royals face crucial decisions regarding player retention. With the BCCI's retention rules still not finalized every choice will be pivotal for their future success. 6. Sandeep Sharma

Rajasthan Royals can retain Sandeep Sharma under the uncapped player category. The 31-year-old made his India debut in 2015 and since he hasn’t played for the national team in the last years, the seamer will be considered an uncapped player and RR can take advantage of that. 

In IPL 2024, Sandeep played 11 matches for the franchise, which shows that he has always been in the plans and is a first-choice player. He picked up 13 wickets at an economy rate of 8.18, which is not bad if they get him at only INR 4 crore. Overall, Sandeep has played 23 games for the inaugural champions and picked up as many wickets.

He can partner with Trent Boult as the Punjab-born can be deadly with the new ball. He can swing and trouble the batters early on. Having him in the mix, Rajasthan’s bowling unit looks sorted as well. Chahal can lead the spin unit while Sandeep and Trent can be the first-choice pacers. With six first-choice players now done, RR can focus on the remaining bit in the auction.
