Asian neighbors India and Bangladesh are set to cross swords in their penultimate fixtures of the Super 12 stage in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide. The clash between the two will prove to be a fiery contest as one cannot count out Bangladesh just yet despite India being the favourites. India's winning run ended in the marquee tournament this year with a narrow loss to South Africa and will now gear up for the clash against the Bangla Tigers on Wednesday, November 02.
The Bangladeshi side led by Shakib Al Hasan are coming into the fixture with a chance to still qualify for the semi-finals. With that said, the clash will prove to be a memorable contest filled with emotions and drama as both will aim to obtain the two points off this fixture.
Let’s look at Bangladesh’s probable playing XI against India
Openers: Najmul Hossain Shanto and Soumya Sarkar
Soumya Sarkar has not yet found rhythm in his game as he was dismissed for a duck in the last fixture against Zimbabwe. However, the opener has the potential to construct innings that can prove to be vital for the side. Against India, it will be tricky to play the pacers from the blue side, but he will aim to provide his side the runs.
Najmul Shanto was on point against Zimbabwe in the last outing as he slammed 71 runs off 55 balls with a strike rate of 129.09 that included seven fours and one maximum. The onus is on the duo to build a solid foundation in the batting innings.
Middle-Order: Litton Das, Yasir Ali, Afif Hossain, Nurul Hasan (wk)
Litton Das can make a difference in terms of aggressive hitting but has not been able to hit the ground running as he only managed to score 14 runs off 12 balls against the African side in the previous match. But that has been the case for the batter, he has just not been able to get associated with the big scores and his skipper will hope that he quickly becomes an integral part of the side.
Yasir Ali joined the side in their last Super 12 fixture but the batter, who came down the order has not got an opportunity to display his fine batting just yet. However, considering that the Adelaide Oval is a high scoring ground, Yasir and the other batters will get opportunities to dispatch the ball on occasions.
Afif Hossain and Nurul Hasan have continued to be underwhelming for the side as the duo are still not able to get the scores for the side. Moreover, batting has been a major concern for the squad due to the players unable to push themselves into getting the scores for the side.
All-Rounders: Shakib Al Hasan (c) and Mosaddek Hossain
The skipper, Shakib Al Hasan’s experience has come in handy for the side in the matches especially during the crunch moments of the game. The versatility is just another addition as he can provide major breakthroughs both with the bat and ball.
Mosaddek Hossain, both with the bat and the ball has endured dismal outings in the Super 12 stage for the Bangla Tigers. Even against Zimbabwe, despite scalping two wickets, he was smashed for 34 runs off his four overs and scored only seven off 10 balls with the bat. Bangladesh still continue to back him in the hopes that he will provide crucial innings as an all-rounder.
Bowlers: Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud
Taskin Ahmed has two Player-of-the-Match awards under his belt in the showpiece event down under and rightfully so. Taskin, who made his T20I debut in the 2014 T20 World Cup, is making up for lost time by scalping wickets in quick succession, as he spent three years in the sidelines. Team India batters will not find it easy against the Bangla pacer in the Australian conditions and could play him cautiously.
Along with him, Mustafizur Rahman can get the swing coupled with lethal pace that can help bamboozle the batters. The left arm pace spearhead relished a fine outing against Zimbabwe as he scalped two wickets and gave away mere 15 runs in his four overs.
Hasan Mahmud was battered for 36 runs off his stipulated four overs against the Zimbabweans last match. The bowler is capable of something exciting with the ball but has not backed that up yet in the tournament. He will aim to get better for the side if the side has any chances of making it to the semi-finals from here on.
Bangladesh predicted XI against India:
Najmul Hossain Shanto, Soumya Sarkar, Litton Das, Shakib Al Hasan(C), Afif Hossain, Yasir Ali, Nurul Hassan(wk), Mosaddek Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud
