Ahead of the World Cup 2023, passionate cricket buffs will receive a treat to their eyes when six teams will square off in the Asia Cup 2023 which will be played in the One-Day International (ODI) format. The marquee continental tournament will be held from August 31 to September 17, and this time, India and Pakistan are favourites to lift the coveted trophy.

Prior to the competition, it’s time to revisit some sensational records that were set by some Asian cricketing legends. In upcoming years, many new records will be made and a lot of old ones will be shattered in the Asia Cup but some established by distinguished names in the past might not get broken in the history of the competition.

Here are the five Asia Cup records that might never get shattered in the history of the tournament

5. Highest opening partnership of 224 between Nasir Jamshed and Mohammad Hafeez

In the 2012 Asia Cup, India and Pakistan clashed with each other at the Shere Bangla Stadium, Mirpur. For fans of both teams, it was a great game as both sides played an aggressive brand of cricket. Winning the toss, Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq elected to bat first.

Pakistan openers Mohammad Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed exuded confidence with their bats, delivering a fierce start to the team. Both players held a 224-run partnership, which is the record stand in the continental championship. Jamshed scored 112 off 104 while Hafeez also played an amazing knock of 105 off 113.

Riding on exceptional knocks of their both openers, Pakistan posted 329 on the board. However, in the end, their efforts went in vain as India won the game by six wickets with the help of Virat Kohli’s extraordinary 183-run knock. With the change in batting style in recent years, it could be said that the opening partnership feat between Hafeez and Jamshed might not get broken in the Asia Cup as modern-day openers may not show patience in a 50-over game to stitch a colossal partnership like the Pakistani duo.
