Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has come into the IPL 2024 auction looking for a decent Indian batter to take over from Ambati Rayudu in the playing XI. They had the option to buy the likes of Karun Nair and Manish Pandey, both having extensive experience in domestic and IPL T20s with good techniques.

However, the CSK franchise decided to splurge more than INR 8 Cr on Uttar Pradesh’s Sameer Rizvi on the back of some good batting performances in the UP T20 League. Rizvi has been dubbed as a ‘right-handed Suresh Raina’ and even got backing from Raina himself. It remains to be seen how Rizvi performs under the pressure of the money tag and as a replacement for Rayudu.
