The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has resumed after being suspended for a week due to cross-border tension between India and Pakistan. However, fans are concerned about the rain threats looming large over some potentially important matches.

The first match after the resumption was set to be held at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday, May 17. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) were hosting Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the crucial encounter. However, the match was washed out without a ball being bowled and defending champions KKR's hopes of reaching the playoffs were squashed.

While Gujarat Titans (GT), RCB, and Punjab Kings (PBKS) have already booked their spots in the playoffs, one place is still up for grabs. The teams in contention will not want rain to become an impediment. In this article, CricTracker takes a look at three matches in which rain might have the last laugh.

Mumbai Indians (MI) will be facing Delhi Capitals (DC) on Wednesday, May 21, in the last home match for the five-time champions at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. This is an important fixture in the context of the league. MI are placed at No. 4 on the IPL 2025 points table with 14 points from 12 games. Meanwhile, DC have one point fewer after playing the same number of matches as the Hardik Pandya-led side.

The playoff hopes will diminish considerably for the team which tastes defeat on Wednesday. However, there are some serious doubts about whether this match will see a result or not. According to AccuWeather, there is an 80% chance of rain in the morning. The forecast is slightly better for the evening, but the groundstaff will have their work cut out to get the field ready. Even if the game starts, there could be some stoppages along the way. Fans will keep their fingers crossed and hope that rain stays away for as long as possible on Wednesday.
