Punjab Kings overcame Rajasthan Royals in a thriller by 10 runs in the 59th match of the IPL 2025 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. PBKS claimed their 8th win of the season and climbed to the second spot in the points table, just below RCB. A collective team effort helped PBKS beat RR in their backyard after being on the backfoot.

Batting first, PBKS posted a total of 219/5 on the board. The visiting side was 34/3 at one point and recovered well to post a good total. Nehal Wadhera scored 70(37) and helped PBKS in their recovery. Shashank Singh and Azmatullah Omarzai finished well with their scores of 59*(30) and 21*(9). Tushar Deshpande claimed 2/37 in his 4 overs for RR.

Chasing 220, RR got a great start, thanks to a brilliant opening stand between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The duo posted 76 runs for the first wicket with scores of 50(25) and 40(14), respectively. Harpreet Brar bowled a brilliant spell of 3/22, which turned the game on its head. Dhruv Jurel's 53(31) went in vain, as RR lost by 10 runs.

Key moments from RR vs PBKS, Match 59 of IPL 2025:

1. Nehal Wadhera and Shashank Singh's batting performances

Batting first, PBKS was reduced to 34/3 by the first half of the Powerplay. They needed someone to take the guard from that point, which was exactly what happened, a major thanks to Nehal Wadhera. The Southpaw scored 70 runs in 37 balls, which included 5 fours and sixes each at a strike rate of 189.18.

While Wadhera played a big role in the middle overs, Shashank Singh batted well both in the middle overs and the death overs. The emerging batter took a bit of his time to get set and went after the bowlers at the death. In his stay in the middle, Shashank scored 59 runs in 30 balls, which included 5 fours and 3 sixes.

2. The opening partnership between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi

Chasing a big total of 220 runs, RR needed a great start, which was exactly provided by Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Yashavi Jaiswal. The latter started on a great note by smashing Arshdeep Singh for 22 runs in the very first over of the innings. The Southpaw scored 50(25) and went on to become the orange cap holder in the process.

At the other end, Suryavanshi smashed the bowlers for fun. The 14-year-old scored 40(15), which included 4 fours and sixes each. All of Vaibhav's runs came through boundaries. The duo posted a partnership of 76 runs in 29 balls, which set the tone for the home side in their big chase against the visiting side.

3. Harpreet Brar's spell

Harpreet Brar was the best bowler of the match, who bowled well despite having a negative matchup against him. Operating against two Southpaws in the Powerplay overs, who were going bonkers, Brar brought PBKS back in the game with his crucial dismissals in every spell.

He first dismissed a dangerous-looking Suryavanshi for 40 and followed it up by dismissing Jaiswal for 50 runs. He also dismissed a dangerous Riyan Parag and gave an upper hand for the visiting side. In his spell of 4 overs, Harpreet conceded just 22 runs and claimed 3 wickets, which turned the game for PBKS.
